The arrangement is deliberately asymmetrical, with the long, emerald-green leaves and stalks cutting across the frame in sharp, vertical gestures. These linear elements contrast sharply with the rounded, crowded heads of the flowers, creating a sense of crowded, untamed nature held within a decorative, human-made space.

The Rinpa Legacy

Dating to the early 18th century, this piece is a hallmark of the Rinpa school, which emphasized nature-based subjects and high-contrast, graphic stylization. The irises refer to a famous episode in The Tales of Ise, where a traveler stops at the Eight Bridges to compose poetry. By stripping away narrative background and focusing entirely on the vegetation, Kōrin emphasizes the cycle of the seasons and the fleeting beauty of the natural world, transforming a literary reference into an exercise in pure, rhythmic design.

Artistry in the Cut

Because this sticker is kiss-cut to the specific silhouette of the iris clusters, the artwork escapes the confines of a traditional rectangular border. This precision allows the jagged, organic lines of the leaves and the rounded petals to act as the true boundary of the image. When applied to your favorite flat surface, the design appears as if the flowers are growing directly out of the object itself, preserving the intentional, floating quality of Kōrin’s original screen painting.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/ogata-krin-irises-at-yatsuhashi-eight-bridges-after-1709-v27-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788627903
https://thestickerspace.com/products/ogata-krin-irises-at-yatsuhashi-eight-bridges-after-1709-v27-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
