Kōrin’s signature use of bold, simplified forms turns individual blossoms into graphic icons, emphasizing the interplay between organic curvature and negative space. The color palette favors the deep, saturated tones of the Edo period, utilizing gold leaf accents and rich pigments that highlight the deliberate, flat aesthetic of the screen painting tradition.

Meaning & Symbolism

Created shortly after 1701, this piece embodies the quintessential Japanese appreciation for the transience of seasons. By juxtaposing the blossoms of spring with the foliage of autumn, Kōrin moves beyond simple botanical illustration to represent a cyclical view of nature. This fusion of distinct seasonal markers serves as a visual bridge, reflecting the high-status decorative arts of the Kyoto aristocracy where such folding screens functioned as both luxury partitions and philosophical statements on the passage of time.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the complex, sprawling silhouettes of the florals are liberated from a rectangular frame. The die-cut outline tracks the contour of the individual petals and stems, allowing the artwork to sit against any surface as an organic, floating element rather than a rigid graphic block. By removing the boundary of the page, the sticker integrates directly into the geometry of a laptop lid or notebook cover, effectively turning the Edo-period screen into a portable, sculptural fragment.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/ogata-krin-flowers-of-spring-and-autumn-shortly-after-1701-v5-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788628793
https://thestickerspace.com/products/ogata-krin-flowers-of-spring-and-autumn-shortly-after-1701-v5-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
