Saint James occupies the primary space, rendered in flowing, voluminous drapery that echoes the Gothic influence of the period. The Virgin of the Annunciation appears in a complementary register, her form framed by delicate linear contours. The palette relies on the heavy saturation of mineral pigments, contrasted sharply against the gilded background which flattens the pictorial space and emphasizes the ornate, patterned borders surrounding the holy figures.

Meaning & Symbolism

Originating from the devotional traditions of the 14th and 15th centuries, this work serves as an intersection of hagiography and liturgical art. Saint James the Greater is identified by his traditional attributes, signifying his role as an apostolic figure, while the inclusion of the Virgin of the Annunciation serves to anchor the scene within the broader narrative of the Incarnation. The use of gold leaf acts as a divine, otherworldly backdrop, intended to transport the viewer beyond the secular realm and into a space of concentrated religious contemplation.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

As a kiss-cut sticker, this art is liberated from the constraints of the traditional rectangular frame. The die-cut follows the specific silhouettes of the saint and the Virgin, allowing these historical figures to sit independently against your chosen surface. Because the design is cut precisely to its own outline, the gold-ground aesthetic integrates cleanly onto flat surfaces like journals or laptop lids, turning a static museum relic into a portable, sculptural element that maintains its intended visual hierarchy.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/martino-di-bartolommeo-di-saint-james-the-greater-with-the-virgin-of-the-annunciation-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-MRTD-2X2-2-front.webp?v=1789413301
https://thestickerspace.com/products/martino-di-bartolommeo-di-saint-james-the-greater-with-the-virgin-of-the-annunciation-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
