Wispy, rhythmic brushwork defines the gnarled trees and rolling topography, while muted earthy tones dominate the palette. The scene is anchored by architectural silhouettes that emerge from the hazy, atmospheric depth of the ink wash. Thin, calligraphic lines guide the eye across the frame, emphasizing the horizontal flow typical of the Odes of the State of Bin.

Meaning & Symbolism

Ma Hezhi was commissioned by the Gaozong Emperor to illustrate the Classic of Poetry, specifically the Odes of the State of Bin, which centers on the agrarian cycles and Confucian virtues of the Zhou dynasty. The figures and landscapes serve as moral exemplars, depicting the harmony between human labor and the natural world. This artwork represents the height of the literati painting tradition, where the landscape is not merely a background but a philosophical statement on order, governance, and the passage of the seasons.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because the kiss-cut follows the precise, organic contours of these ancient brushstrokes, the design feels like a floating window into a historical scroll. The cut separates the intricate, airy composition from any rigid borders, allowing the scene to integrate seamlessly onto the flat surfaces of your laptop or journal cover as if the ink were applied directly to the surface.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/ma-hezhi-odes-of-the-state-of-bin-mid-12th-century-v11-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-front.webp?v=1788701016
https://thestickerspace.com/products/ma-hezhi-odes-of-the-state-of-bin-mid-12th-century-v11-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
