Her elongated, stylized body adopts the signature, sinuous S-curve of Northern Renaissance mannerism, her pale flesh contrasting sharply with the pitch-black void behind her. Beside her, a youthful Cupid balances precariously with a honeycomb, beset by angry bees swarming around his head as stolen honey drips down his arm.

Allegory & Art History

Cranach uses this mythological pairing to deliver a sharp moral warning about the bittersweet nature of love and the inevitable pain that accompanies sensual pleasure. The inscription floating in the upper dark space—borrowed from classical literature—warns that Cupid, the honey-thief, is himself stung by the bee, equating physical desire with the sting of regret. Painted during a turbulent era in Wittenberg, the image reflects elite humanist taste mixed with a dark, didactic wit that captivated court collectors of the period.

On the Kiss-Cut Stickers

This provocative Renaissance composition is sharply outlined by the kiss-cut process, turning a sixteenth-century museum piece into an aggressive, sharp-edged emblem for laptops and indoor journals.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/lucas-cranach-the-elder-venus-and-cupid-ca-152527-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-LCSCRN-2X2-37-front.webp?v=1789404696
https://thestickerspace.com/products/lucas-cranach-the-elder-venus-and-cupid-ca-152527-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
