Figures sit inside an open pavilion, where the composition gathers its attention. Pine trees frame the scene at the edges, and a stepping-stone garden path leads the eye toward a gate where more figures stand. A woman holds a lantern on a wooden railing, giving the image a sense of evening and quiet distance between the characters.

Meaning & Symbolism

The scene comes from Japanese legend. Ushiwaka, the boy who would grow into the warrior Yoshitsune, meets Jorurihime and plays music for her, a moment that carries the romance and storytelling central to the tale. Shigemasa, active in the Edo period, worked in a narrative style that favoured recognisable characters and a single moment of action. The print belongs to the late eighteenth century, when this kind of folklore image was popular with collectors.

On the Kiss-Cut Stickers

A kiss-cut sticker is trimmed to its own outline, so the pavilion, the pines and the garden path become the shape of the object itself rather than a rectangle. The panel reads best on flat surfaces such as laptops, journals and windows, where its pale ground and layered greens stand out as a single image. For fans of Edo prints and Japanese legend, it turns a historical narrative into something to carry and display.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/kitao-shigemasa-ushiwaka-the-young-yoshitsune-serenading-jorurihime-ca-1772-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-KTSHG-2X2-50-alt-3.webp?v=1785684518
https://thestickerspace.com/products/kitao-shigemasa-ushiwaka-the-young-yoshitsune-serenading-jorurihime-ca-1772-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
