Pale cream and warm grey hold the sky and architecture, while vermilion orange, teal green and river grey are laid in with hand colour. Lanterns glow across the water and warm the lantern-lit shopfronts and tiled merchant roofs along the bank. Inscribed characters in the design read 大橋中洲名所之圖 and 北尾重政画, naming the scene as a view of famous places at Ōhashi and Nakasu.

Meaning & Symbolism

The work comes from the Edo period, when ukiyo-e artists recorded the city's bridges, pleasure districts and seasonal events for a wide audience. Here the festival stands for communal celebration, and the lanterns stand for light gathered on water, a motif that ties tradition to the rhythm of the season. Crowds of townspeople along the waterfront make the celebration public, while the quiet river keeps the mood contemplative rather than loud.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the lanterns, boats and bridge keep the silhouette of the scene at its edges. Placed on a laptop lid or a journal cover, the lit river becomes a small object that can be held close and turned in the hand, the way a print is handled at a desk.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/kitao-shigemasa-landscape-showing-water-festival-with-lanterns-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-KTSHG-2X2-20-alt-3.webp?v=1785684947
https://thestickerspace.com/products/kitao-shigemasa-landscape-showing-water-festival-with-lanterns-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
