A standing woman in an ornate kimono, holding a hairpin, fills the vertical frame as a classic bijin figure. Beside her sits a framed landscape vignette of a castle on a hill, surrounded by pine trees, and below that a rectangular tray holding a small mountain with a snow-capped peak. Printed inscriptions run through the composition, including 契情箱中双嫁, 若松屋内 and 花川, alongside the numeral 170-47.

Meaning & Symbolism

The series takes its name from the Tōkaidō, the road linking Edo with Kyoto, and the courtesans of the pleasure quarters are presented as travellers and tokens on that route. The castle and the snow-capped peak place the viewer along the highway, while the hairpin and the layered kimono mark social standing and the fashions of the period. Ukiyo-e prints like this one circulated widely as collectible images, and the inscriptions record the houses and names that gave the series its worldly, game-like character.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker follows its own outline, so the vertical figure, the framed vignette and the tray read as one shape rather than a rectangle with a border. Stuck to a laptop lid, a notebook or a book cover, the print becomes a small, self-contained scene that can be looked at up close, where the hairpin, the pine trees and the mountain peak reveal their detail.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/keisai-eisen-album-of-prints-from-the-series-a-tkaid-board-game-of-courtesans-fifty-three-pairings-unknown-v50-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-KSSN-2X2-98-alt-3.webp?v=1785693685
https://thestickerspace.com/products/keisai-eisen-album-of-prints-from-the-series-a-tkaid-board-game-of-courtesans-fifty-three-pairings-unknown-v50-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
