Cream paper forms the ground, with sage green and teal blue building the landscape and warm wood tan and muted brown grounding the working land. Small travelling figures move along hillside paths, a figure in a blue robe stands among trees, and a horseback rider crosses the scene, giving the eye a route through the composition.

Meaning & Symbolism

Agricultural subjects in Japanese art stood for fertility, diligence, and the working balance between people and nature. Placing the quiet labour of winter beside the autumn harvest shows the continuous cycle that rural communities in pre-modern Japan depended on to secure food through the year. Isai worked within the Katsushika lineage, drawing on the tradition set by Hokusai, and the fan format shows how Edo painters brought refined technique to portable objects used in everyday life.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A fan is a shape held close and turned in the hand, and this sticker takes that outline as its edge. The kiss-cut follows the fan's silhouette, so the cut line becomes part of the composition rather than a rectangle drawn around it. The two seasons that share one fan in the original are brought together here, and the cut keeps the object true to the form the painting was made for.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/katsushika-isai-winter-farming-scene-verso-autumn-farming-scene-unknown-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1787968510
https://thestickerspace.com/products/katsushika-isai-winter-farming-scene-verso-autumn-farming-scene-unknown-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
