Merchants' storehouses line the banks in pale ochre and warm white, while deep blue and pale teal water carry boatmen in their punted boats. A crowd in round hats and umbrellas, and a cart of bundled cargo, fill the foreground with small, precise linework. On the horizon, a pagoda-like castle tower stands beside the silhouette of Mount Fuji. The title cartouche reads 冨嶽三十六景 and 江戸日本橋, set into the composition as part of the print itself.

Meaning & Symbolism

The print belongs to Hokusai's celebrated series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, created around 1830–32 at the height of the ukiyo-e tradition. Fuji appears throughout the series as a constant, while each view places it against a different slice of everyday life. Here, the sacred mountain and the commercial bridge share one frame, setting the permanence of the natural landscape against the movement of urban Edo. The image is a window onto early nineteenth-century Japan, recording the crowds, trade and scenery of a city that was then at its height.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the print becomes a single object that can be placed on a laptop, journal or window. The horizontal scene reads most clearly when it sits flat and is seen at a glance, with the canal leading the eye from edge to edge. Fuji's small silhouette and the fine detail of the crowd reward a closer look once the sticker is in place.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/katsushika-hokusai-nihonbashi-in-edo-edo-nihonbashi-from-the-series-thirty-six-views-of-mount-fuji-ca-183032-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-KTSHKS-2X2-256-alt-3.webp?v=1785697580
https://thestickerspace.com/products/katsushika-hokusai-nihonbashi-in-edo-edo-nihonbashi-from-the-series-thirty-six-views-of-mount-fuji-ca-183032-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
