An arched stone bridge crosses calm water, with a small figure walking across it. Two wooden boats with sails drift below, pine trees rise from the islets, and a flowering tree stands on the shore. A distant island with a conical peak closes the horizon. In the upper corner, a red cartouche carries the characters 長虹秋霽 and 琉球八景, which name the scene and the series.

Meaning & Symbolism

The cartouche reads as "long rainbow, autumn clearing," a title that points to the sky after rain as the true subject, the moment when the weather lifts and the landscape is seen plainly. The bridge and the walking figure bring human scale into the view, while the boats and islets mark the coastal setting of the Ryūkyū Islands. Eight Views of the Ryūkyū Islands is a series Hokusai produced around 1832, drawing Edo-period audiences into a distant archipelago through the conventions of ukiyo-e landscape printing.

Reading the Sticker's Outline

A kiss-cut sticker follows its own outline, so the arch of the bridge, the sails and the curve of the distant peak define the edge of the object rather than sitting inside a rectangle. Hokusai's composition depends on that kind of clean silhouette, which makes the print well suited to a cut-to-shape format. The cartouche's red stands out against the cool blues, so the design reads at a glance on whatever surface it is placed.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/katsushika-hokusai-autumn-sky-at-chk-chk-shsei-from-the-series-eight-views-of-the-ryky-islands-ca-1832-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-KTSHKS-2X2-130-alt-3.webp?v=1785704405
https://thestickerspace.com/products/katsushika-hokusai-autumn-sky-at-chk-chk-shsei-from-the-series-eight-views-of-the-ryky-islands-ca-1832-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
