The standing man, with his topknot and patterned robe, fills the foreground. His garment is striped and set with circular roundels, rendered in pale grey, olive green, cream and salmon pink. Beside him, a woman in a wide sedge hat holds a sleeve to her face and carries a lacquered box. Mount Fuji rises in the background as a conical silhouette, its peak picked out in golden yellow, with clouds drifting over the hills below. The artist's signature, 春章 and 画, appears in the print.

Meaning & Symbolism

The print pairs theatrical character study with classical landscape. The actor's dramatic stance and lavish costume belong to the Kabuki stage, where performers were celebrated through portraits like this one. Mount Fuji, the most recognisable natural landmark in Japan, anchors the scene with a sense of scale and calm, so the drama of the performer and the stillness of the mountain sit side by side. The work comes from the Katsukawa School of the Edo period and captures the visual culture of late eighteenth-century Edo.

Made for the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its artwork, so the silhouette of the robed figure and the peak of Fuji define the shape you hold. Because the image is a tall, layered composition, it suits smooth, flat surfaces such as laptops and journals, where the figure can be seen up close and the mountain reads clearly against the surface beneath it.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/katsukawa-shunsh-the-actor-bando-mitsugoro-as-a-man-in-sumptuous-raiment-standing-in-a-field-mount-fuji-ca-1778-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-KTSSHN-2X2-562-alt-3.webp?v=1785714634
https://thestickerspace.com/products/katsukawa-shunsh-the-actor-bando-mitsugoro-as-a-man-in-sumptuous-raiment-standing-in-a-field-mount-fuji-ca-1778-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
