A large white headdress flares above the figure, a bold shape that anchors the top of the composition. The palette stays within the traditional Ukiyo-e range of cream, ochre yellow, dark brown, coral pink and sage green, with the warm tones of the robes set against the pale ground. Fine line work defines the features, folds and patterned textiles, and the small inscription 春幸画 sits within the print.

Meaning & Symbolism

Segawa Kikunojō III was a celebrated onnagata, a male actor who specialised in female roles on the Kabuki stage. Portraits like this one record that craft: the performer's poised stance, refined costume and expressive face present a woman's grace while the actor's identity remains visible beneath it. Katsukawa Shunshō, whose art name appears in the inscription, made this print around 1777, during the Edo period, when actor prints were among the most popular images in Japan. The work reflects the theatrical elegance and gender artistry that defined the late eighteenth-century Kabuki world.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the tall silhouette of the actor, pole and flaring headdress becomes the object itself. The figure is designed to be seen close and in profile, the way collectors handle prints, and the cut edge follows the print's vertical lines rather than a generic frame. Placed on a laptop, journal or window, it carries the theatrical presence of the original sheet into everyday view.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/katsukawa-shunsh-kabuki-actor-segawa-kikunoj-iii-ca-1777-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-KTSSHN-2X2-408-alt-3.webp?v=1785719455
https://thestickerspace.com/products/katsukawa-shunsh-kabuki-actor-segawa-kikunoj-iii-ca-1777-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
