A flock of small birds drifts in flight across the upper field, while a pale moon hangs in the open sky. A soft hill rises at the left edge, and the whole scene is framed within a gold-bordered rectangle. The composition reads as a folding screen: separate panels joined into one continuous landscape, with generous empty space left to carry the eye.

Meaning & Symbolism

The four seasons were central to East Asian painting because they expressed impermanence and the order of the cosmos. Each shift in the landscape marks the passage of time, so the birds, moon and hill become signs of motion and change rather than static scenery. Tan'yū was a pivotal figure of the Kano school in the early Edo period, and these works refine that school's style by combining classical Chinese models with a distinctly Japanese sensitivity to nature. They stand as a key record of seventeenth-century Japanese aesthetics.

Cut to the Shape of the Scene

A kiss-cut sticker follows its own outline, so this artwork keeps the shape of its screen-like composition and its gold border when it leaves the sheet. Its small scale suits a close, held-in-view encounter, where the birds, moon and hill can be studied one by one. Placed on a journal, laptop or window, the piece turns an everyday surface into a quiet seasonal landscape.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/kano-tany-landscapes-of-the-four-seasons-1630s-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1787962181
https://thestickerspace.com/products/kano-tany-landscapes-of-the-four-seasons-1630s-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
