Ink lines carry the birds, the pine needles and the seasonal blooms, so the eye moves across the surface rather than resting on a single focal point. The source is a rectangular folded sheet, and its calligraphic inscriptions remain legible in the artwork, including 二幅對 (a pair of hanging scrolls), 松葉 (pine needles), 七月九日 (the ninth day of the seventh month) and 寅, the tiger of the zodiac cycle.

Meaning & Symbolism

Pheasants paired with seasonal flowers belong to a long East Asian tradition that links such imagery to virtue, rank and an refined sense of nature's passing time. The birds and blossoms show living creatures moving through a changing landscape in balance. Kano Shōei worked in the sixteenth century, during the shift from the Muromachi to the Momoyama period, when the Kano school was formalising painting for the samurai class and the aristocracy. His work moved the style toward clearer structure while keeping faith with the predecessors who shaped it.

Cut to the Pheasant

A kiss-cut sticker follows its own outline, so the birds and branches keep their exact silhouettes once the surrounding vinyl is removed. Each piece carries the composition as a single image, with the inscribed pair of scrolls and the seasonal flowers reduced to what the cut allows. Placed on a laptop, journal or window, it reads as a small, self-contained scroll fragment of the Kano school.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/kano-shei-pheasants-among-trees-flowers-of-the-four-seasons-probably-1560s-v16-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1787961289
https://thestickerspace.com/products/kano-shei-pheasants-among-trees-flowers-of-the-four-seasons-probably-1560s-v16-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
