Bold, calligraphic brushstrokes define the rugged texture of tree trunks and the soft, intricate plumage of the birds, while negative space is utilized to emphasize the rhythmic flow of the branches. The color palette remains grounded in deep monochrome ink tones, punctuated by the gilded surfaces that catch the light, creating a sense of depth and luminosity inherent to classical Japanese screen paintings.

Historical Significance and Symbolism

Attributed to Kano Shōei in the 1560s, this work represents the refined transition between late Muromachi traditions and the burgeoning Momoyama style. Pheasants in traditional East Asian iconography serve as symbols of nobility and beauty, often paired with blossoming trees to represent the cyclical nature of the four seasons. By isolating this specific interaction, the design captures the fleeting, seasonal essence of a larger hanging scroll narrative, preserving a moment of quiet observation that has survived for centuries.

The Design as a Decal

Rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, this intricate painting is liberated from its original monumental format and brought into an immediate, personal scale. The precise outline follows the contours of the pheasants and flora, allowing the organic shapes of Shōei’s brushwork to sit cleanly against your chosen surface. By lifting this fragment from the museum archives, the sticker turns a storied piece of 16th-century screen painting into an accessory that contours to laptops, journals, or flat interior surfaces.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/kano-shei-pheasants-among-trees-flowers-of-the-four-seasons-probably-1560s-v12-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-front.webp?v=1788722704
https://thestickerspace.com/products/kano-shei-pheasants-among-trees-flowers-of-the-four-seasons-probably-1560s-v12-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
