Delicate, calligraphic brushwork outlines the stalks and petals, while generous applications of gold paint illuminate the background, creating a high-contrast interplay between the earthy tones of the ink-drawn plants and the radiant, metallic void. The arrangement follows the Momoyama-period aesthetic of asymmetry, where the focus shifts fluidly between clusters of blossoming flowers and the negative space surrounding them, mimicking the sprawling, expansive nature of a folding screen.

Meaning & Symbolism

Originating from the Kano school’s masterful output, this imagery reflects the transition of the Momoyama period toward a sophisticated, decorative style that emphasized both natural observation and courtly luxury. By depicting plants from all four seasons simultaneously, the artwork serves as a microcosm of time itself—a visual meditation on the cyclical, eternal movement of the natural world. These motifs were commissioned to bring the vitality of the outdoors into interior spaces, serving as a permanent, golden-hued testament to the changing cycles of life and growth.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

The kiss-cut allows this complex, organic scene to exist as a fluid silhouette, freeing the intricate stems and flowers from the constraints of a rigid border. Because the sticker is cut to the specific outline of the plants, the golden background of the painting merges seamlessly with the surface it occupies, transforming a standard laptop lid or notebook cover into a curated fragment of a sixteenth-century masterpiece.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/kano-mitsunobu-flowers-and-grasses-of-the-four-seasons-late-16th-century-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-front.webp?v=1788727303
https://thestickerspace.com/products/kano-mitsunobu-flowers-and-grasses-of-the-four-seasons-late-16th-century-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
