Night charcoal dominates the sky and water, broken by the red full moon and the vermilion glow of fireworks bursting over Tenma Bridge. Pale aqua and sage green pick out the boats and the lantern-lit houses along the shore, while cream paper tones keep the figures bright. Two men in kimono sit on a bench by the water, and a standing man in striped kimono holds a card, giving the eye a clear path through the crowd.

Meaning & Symbolism

The scene joins two kinds of pleasure: the personal leisure of actors stepping out of their roles and the public spectacle of the Tenjin Festival. The fireworks over Tenma Bridge mark that festival, and the spectators crowding the shore and boats show the city gathering to celebrate. A playful puppy worrying at a sandal adds a note of everyday humour to the grand view. Produced with collaborators Jugyōdō Umekuni, Juyōdō Toshikuni, Jushōdō Fujikuni and Hōgadō Kishikuni, the print offers a window onto the social life of 19th-century Osaka.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is trimmed to its own outline, so the riverside panorama, moon and fireworks become the shape of the object itself. Each cut-out carries the Osaka night onto whatever surface it joins, whether a laptop, a journal or a notebook cover, turning a small piece of Edo-period summer into something you can place close and look at again.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/jukakud-masakuni-enjoying-the-evening-cool-near-lord-nabeshimas-warehouses-fry-nabeshima-ysuzumi-ca-1825-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-JKKMSK-2X2-4-alt-3.webp?v=1785742255
https://thestickerspace.com/products/jukakud-masakuni-enjoying-the-evening-cool-near-lord-nabeshimas-warehouses-fry-nabeshima-ysuzumi-ca-1825-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
