She gazes upward toward a glass sphere suspended from the ceiling. Behind her, a monumental painting of the Crucifixion looms, while the foreground is cluttered with heavy symbolic objects: a globe under her foot, a sprawling apple, and a snake crushed by a stone. The light enters from the left, illuminating the rich textures of the floor tiles and the heavy, saturated colors of the woman's robes against the dark, theatrical background.

Theology in Paint

Painted between 1670 and 1672, this work represents the peak of Vermeer’s foray into allegory. Every object functions as a signifier: the snake and apple represent the triumph of faith over original sin, while the glass sphere symbolizes the heavens. The woman is not merely a portrait but a personification of the Church, grounding abstract religious doctrine within the tangible, domestic space typical of the Dutch Golden Age. It is a rare, deliberate departure from the quiet, secular everyday life usually captured by the artist.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the intricate, weighted edges of Vermeer’s heavy interior are freed from the rectangular constraints of a traditional canvas. The contour-cut follows the silhouettes of the figures and symbolic objects, allowing the stark, dark background of the painting to contrast sharply against the surface where you place it. Holding this decal transforms a heavy, museum-bound theological statement into a mobile, singular icon for your laptop or journal.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/johannes-vermeer-allegory-of-the-catholic-faith-ca-167072-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-JHNVRM-2X2-3-front.webp?v=1789394333
https://thestickerspace.com/products/johannes-vermeer-allegory-of-the-catholic-faith-ca-167072-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
