Warm paper white fills most of the field, and the plum branches are drawn in charcoal ink and pale grey wash, with sparse blossoms set along the lines of the wood rather than massed together. A gnarled trunk curves through the composition, and a rock formation anchors the lower area, giving the branches something solid to grow from. Vermilion seal stamps appear as small red accents against the grey, and a vertical calligraphic inscription runs alongside the painting, so the handwriting and the image read as one composition.

Meaning & Symbolism

Plum blossom was among the most revered subjects in Chinese painting because it flowers in the coldest months of winter. For the scholar-official, it stood for moral fortitude and the ability to remain steadfast under hardship, and the act of painting it was a meditative practice that recalled inner strength and the promise of renewal. Jin Nong was one of the Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou, celebrated for his calligraphic brushwork and his break from rigid academic orthodoxy. This 1757 work shows the mature style that secured his place as a pivotal figure in later Chinese ink painting.

Made for the Sticker Surface

A sticker is cut to its own outline, so the plum branches and the trunk define the shape of the object itself, with the white paper and seals becoming part of the silhouette. Seen up close and turned in the hand, the brushwork keeps its structure, and the branches read as they would on a hand scroll or album leaf, placed wherever a collector wants a quiet note of winter resilience.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/jin-nong-plum-blossoms-dated-1757-v7-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1787955549
https://thestickerspace.com/products/jin-nong-plum-blossoms-dated-1757-v7-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
