The palette is restrained: pale grey-green water, sage foliage, dusty mauve and salmon blossoms, and areas of cream that keep the scene open. The figure sits in the lower third, with the pole cutting a diagonal line that links her to the lotus flowers spread across the surface. The inscription 湖龍齋画 sits within the image, marking the artist's name in Japanese characters.

Meaning & Symbolism

This is a classic Ukiyo-e woodblock print by Isoda Koryūsai (Japanese, 1735–1790), made during the Edo period, when he was active from approximately 1769 to 1790. Ukiyo-e, meaning "pictures of the floating world," recorded everyday life and the seasonal world of late eighteenth-century Japan. Here the woman's quiet labour and the blooming lilies present one moment of calm, shaped by the pleasure of a summer pond. The pine rooted on rock adds a note of longevity against the transient flowers.

Shaped to the Sticker's Own Outline

A kiss-cut sticker follows its own outline, so the boat, the pole, and the flowers can read as a single silhouette rather than a rectangle framed around them. This suits a print built on a vertical axis and open water. The artwork is best seen up close, where its linework and layered colour carry the detail of the original woodblock.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/isoda-korysai-young-woman-poling-herself-in-a-boat-among-pond-lilies-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-SDKRY-2X2-126-alt-3.webp?v=1785743451
https://thestickerspace.com/products/isoda-korysai-young-woman-poling-herself-in-a-boat-among-pond-lilies-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
