The courtesan leans over her work, placing plum blossom branches into a red woven vase set on a black stand, and that vase is the strongest accent in the image. Two attendants watch from the side in patterned kimono, so the figures frame the central act rather than competing with it. The garments carry dense textile motifs, which the composition gives as much attention as the faces. The artist's signature, 湖龍齋画, sits within the print.

Meaning & Symbolism

The print comes from the series A Pattern Book of the Year's First Designs, Fresh as Spring Herbs (Hinagata wakana hatsu moyō), a set of 1776 designs that presented seasonal fashion through the courtesan's dress. Plum blossom signals early spring, matching the series' focus on the year's new patterns. Floral motifs, arranged flowers and woven textiles together state the Edo-period ideal of refined taste, and the courtesan's composed gesture makes that ideal visible.

Cut to the Outline of Its Subject

A kiss-cut sticker takes the shape of the image it carries, so this print's vertical format and its layered patterns become a single object you can place on a page, journal or surface. The backing remains intact, so the design lifts cleanly from its sheet and goes where you choose. Collectors of Koryūsai's pattern books will recognise the seasonal fashion studies in the composition, and the sticker keeps that detail close enough to read.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/isoda-korysai-the-courtesan-sayoginu-of-the-yotsumeya-brothel-from-the-series-a-pattern-book-of-the-1776-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-SDKRY-2X2-80-alt-3.webp?v=1785745187
https://thestickerspace.com/products/isoda-korysai-the-courtesan-sayoginu-of-the-yotsumeya-brothel-from-the-series-a-pattern-book-of-the-1776-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
