Rich, deep earth tones and shadowed highlights emphasize the muscular anatomy of the figure and the fluttering, heavy drapery of his robes. The visual weight rests on the interplay between the Archangel’s upward reach and the downward pressure of the defeated entity at his feet, creating a sense of kinetic energy that centers the viewer's focus on the act of triumph.

Meaning & Symbolism

Attributed to the Spanish painter Ignacio de Ries, this work reflects the counter-reformation fervor of the 1640s, where religious imagery served as a potent tool for divine narrative. Saint Michael is depicted here not merely as a heavenly guard but as the ultimate celestial warrior, embodying the victory of order over chaos and light over darkness. The painting functions as a standard iconographic representation of spiritual conquest, pulling from traditional theological depictions of the celestial hierarchy to command respect for the divine authority Michael represents.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because the kiss-cut process tracks the precise silhouette of the artwork, the Archangel’s sweeping wings and outstretched arms are isolated from the background entirely. This creates a crisp, architectural presence for the painting, allowing the intense movement of the 1640s original to stand out against any flat surface where you choose to place it.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/ignacio-de-ries-saint-michael-the-archangel-1640s-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-GNCD-2X2-2-front.webp?v=1789445013
https://thestickerspace.com/products/ignacio-de-ries-saint-michael-the-archangel-1640s-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
