Gold pigments create a fractured, mosaic-like texture that grounds the composition, while the rhythmic vertical alignment of the kana characters guides the eye in a continuous, flowing movement. The juxtaposition of the dark, mineral-based ink against the metallic warmth of the substrate creates a dynamic visual weight that balances the elegance of the Edo-period script with the decorative ambition of the Rinpa school.

Historical Significance

Attributed to Hon'ami Kōetsu, this work represents the height of Kyoto's artistic revival during the transition into the Edo period. The scrolls were not merely transcriptions of the Shinkokinshū, but were collaborative performances where the master calligrapher engaged directly with the material legacy of classical Japanese literature. By integrating the text into this ornate, gold-embellished landscape, Kōetsu elevated the act of writing into an immersive environmental experience, reflecting the era's obsession with blending visual art, poetry, and craftsmanship into a single, cohesive aesthetic movement.

On the Sticker

As a kiss-cut decal, the irregular edges of this design are preserved, allowing the intricate, organic flow of the original handscroll to stand independently from the rectangular constraints of typical printed media. The contours of the artwork dictate the silhouette of the sticker, ensuring the calligraphy feels as if it were lifted directly from the silk scroll and applied to your laptop or journal surface as a singular, artistic intervention.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/honami-ketsu-twelve-poems-from-the-new-collection-of-poems-ancient-and-modern-ca-1620-v7-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-front.webp?v=1788796506
https://thestickerspace.com/products/honami-ketsu-twelve-poems-from-the-new-collection-of-poems-ancient-and-modern-ca-1620-v7-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
