hayashi-hyakuhi-summer-landscape-winter-landscape-1842-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
Hayashi Hyakuhi - Summer Landscape - Winter Landscape - 1842 - STICKER Vinyl Kiss-Cut Decal
Hayashi Hyakuhi, Summer Landscape and Winter Landscape - Kiss-Cut Sticker Design

This design adapts the 1842 diptych by Edo-period artist Hayashi Hyakuhi, presenting a contemplative juxtaposition of the Japanese landscape transitioning through the height of summer and the stillness of winter.

Composition and Visual Harmony

The artwork is anchored by a masterful control of ink and color on silk, translated here into a precise silhouette. The summer scene captures a lush, dense canopy of foliage, rendered with deep, saturated greens that convey the humidity and vitality of the season. In contrast, the winter landscape is defined by stark, skeletal branches and the sparse, atmospheric application of white space, evoking the quiet suspension of a frost-covered forest. The vertical orientation of the original hanging scrolls dictates a tall, balanced composition that emphasizes the height of the trees against a shifting, ethereal background.

Context and Aesthetic Significance

Hyakuhi’s work reflects the technical precision of the late Edo period, prioritizing the emotional resonance of the changing seasons over rigid realism. These landscapes function as a meditation on impermanence and the cyclical nature of the natural world. The pairing of summer’s abundance with winter’s austerity creates a visual dialogue about the balance inherent in the environment, a theme deeply rooted in classical Japanese ink wash traditions and the appreciation of fleeting beauty.

The Design as a Decal

Because this sticker is cut precisely to the outline of the original scrolls, the organic shapes of the overhanging branches and the tapering trunks stand out sharply against any surface. The verticality of the scrolls translates into a clean, singular profile, turning a centuries-old painting into a distinct graphic element that sits flush against the flat planes of a journal or laptop cover.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/hayashi-hyakuhi-summer-landscape-winter-landscape-1842-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-front.webp?v=1788798638
https://thestickerspace.com/products/hayashi-hyakuhi-summer-landscape-winter-landscape-1842-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
