Bold, sweeping strokes define the silhouette of the central figure, while subtle, fluid lines capture the organic curvature of the lotus leaves and stems. The negative space is utilized with deliberate restraint, drawing the eye toward the solemn expression of the deity. The monochromatic palette emphasizes the texture of the original ink-on-paper medium, highlighting the contrast between the saturated dark ink of the garments and the lighter, gestural strokes of the surrounding floral environment.

Meaning & Symbolism

Kannon stands as a central figure in Zen Buddhist iconography, representing infinite mercy and the ability to hear the cries of the world. In this 1767 interpretation, the lotus pond serves as a potent symbol of purity and spiritual awakening, as the lotus rises untainted from the murky depths of the pond. Hakuin, a pivotal figure in the revival of Rinzai Zen, utilized such imagery not merely for aesthetic devotion, but as a visual tool to provoke sudden enlightenment in the viewer. The figure’s quiet posture invites contemplation of the intersection between worldly engagement and transcendent calm.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because this sticker is cut precisely to the outline of the original artwork, the fluid, organic edges of the lotus leaves and Kannon’s robes stand out clearly against your chosen surface. The shape-specific cut removes the bulk of a traditional rectangular border, allowing the intricate brushstrokes to integrate visually into the negative space of a laptop lid or a journal cover.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/hakuin-ekaku-kannon-in-a-lotus-pond-1767-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-front.webp?v=1788800327
https://thestickerspace.com/products/hakuin-ekaku-kannon-in-a-lotus-pond-1767-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
