Soldiers in kepi caps and military dress make up the group, one shouldering a rifle. The fortification around them is built from earthwork, with a log revetment, wattle fencing along the trench parapet, and plank walkways crossing muddy ground. A distant row of tents or huts closes the composition.

Meaning & Symbolism

The fort was held by Confederate forces before Union troops occupied the heights of Centreville in 1861 and 1862, during the opening campaigns of the American Civil War. The Quaker guns are the focus of the scene: fake cannons, typically made from logs painted black, placed to make a position look more heavily armed than it was. Their presence shows the bluffing and psychological deterrence that shaped fortification warfare on both sides, and the photograph records a lesser-known side of the Bull Run campaign.

Shaping the Sticker

A die-cut sticker follows the outline of its artwork, so the silhouettes of the soldiers and the earthworks set the edge of the piece itself. The matte surface keeps the grey photographic tones soft, and the sticker suits a notebook, a folder or a laptop lid, where the fine detail of the fortification can be studied up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/group-of-federal-soldiers-in-confederate-fort-on-heights-of-centreville-with-quaker-guns-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal-14547491194578512366-front.webp?v=1790504311
https://thestickerspace.com/products/group-of-federal-soldiers-in-confederate-fort-on-heights-of-centreville-with-quaker-guns-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal
