The Prince is draped in the heavy, rich textures of his formal court regalia, with the deep, muted tones of his dark velvet coat contrasting against the brilliant sheen of his decorative orders and sash. Goya utilizes a somber, atmospheric background that pulls the figure forward, ensuring the subject’s steady, somewhat guarded gaze remains the focal point of the frame.

Meaning & Symbolism

Painted circa 1800, this portrait captures a pivotal figure in Spanish history before the chaos of the Napoleonic Wars reshaped his reign. As a work from the Met Museum collection, it serves as a masterclass in Spanish court portraiture, highlighting the tension between the Prince's public persona and the underlying fragility of the Bourbon monarchy. The inclusion of his military and royal emblems signifies his inherited authority, yet Goya’s keen eye hints at the complex, brooding temperament that would later define Ferdinand's turbulent political career.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

The kiss-cut application follows the ornate contours of Goya's composition, allowing the portrait to stand as a singular, silhouette-like object. By isolating the Prince from the confines of a rectangular canvas, the sticker becomes a portable piece of art that rests flat against your surface of choice, lending a dash of dark romanticism to journals, laptop lids, or desk setups.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/goya-ferdinand-vii-17841833-when-prince-of-asturias-ca-1800-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-GYFRD-2X2-1N1CQ-front.webp?v=1789500924
https://thestickerspace.com/products/goya-ferdinand-vii-17841833-when-prince-of-asturias-ca-1800-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
