Bodies Of Federal Soldiers, Killed On July 1, Near The Mcpherson Woods (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A black-and-white battlefield photograph from the first day at Gettysburg, showing fallen Union soldiers lying on an open grassy field.

Visual Elements & Composition

The image is made in greys, from pale off-white in the sky and grass to deep black in the shadows. The bodies lie prone across the foreground, a knapsack rests on the ground, and distant trees close the field at the back. The horizon is low and the camera stays at ground level, which keeps the scene flat and unshowy. The dark photographic border frames the whole image.

Meaning & Symbolism

The photograph records the opening day of the Battle of Gettysburg on 1 July 1863, when Federal troops were pushed back near McPherson Ridge and the McPherson Woods. Battlefield images of this kind were among the earliest war photographs made for the public, and they showed the human cost of the fighting without the romantic gloss of earlier combat art. It stands as a plain historical document of that day.

On the Die-Cut Sticker

A die-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its artwork, so the field and the figures are isolated as one shape. The strong contrast between the pale grass and the dark forms gives the cut a clear edge, and the image reads as a single, sober scene.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/gettysburg-pa-bodies-of-federal-soldiers-killed-on-july-1-near-the-mcpherson-woods-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal-33694859534580986434-front.webp?v=1790508290
https://thestickerspace.com/products/gettysburg-pa-bodies-of-federal-soldiers-killed-on-july-1-near-the-mcpherson-woods-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal
