A standing woman in a sage green robe stands beside a pink peony, while a seated woman rests at a rock table beside a flowering vase. An orchid in a pot anchors the companion scroll. The palette is restrained: warm ochre silk, sage green, pale pink blossoms, dusty mauve grey and cream white. The pink of the peonies is the strongest note, and the figures sit quietly against the open silk.

Meaning & Symbolism

The pairing sets two floral emblems against each other. The orchid stands for delicate refinement, while the peony is traditionally linked to wealth, honour and imperial beauty. Yang Guifei, one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, brings the legend of grace and tragic romance into the composition. Genki, associated with the painting circles of Kyoto, applied these classical Chinese themes in the Edo period, when Japanese artists and literati favoured narrative figure painting combined with botanical detail.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its own design, so the figures, peony petals and orchid leaves form the object's silhouette rather than a rectangle. Its smooth, flat face suits the surfaces where collectors keep small images close at hand: journals, laptops and window glass, or indoor decor. The sticker carries the scroll's pairing in miniature, with the orchid and the peony sitting side by side on one surface, much as they hang together on the original silk.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/genki-komai-ki-yanji-with-orchids-and-yang-guifei-with-peonies-1785-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1787945506
https://thestickerspace.com/products/genki-komai-ki-yanji-with-orchids-and-yang-guifei-with-peonies-1785-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
