The design is a vibrant representation of local history and heritage, rich in symbolic meaning.

Visual Elements and Composition

The shield is divided horizontally by a wavy line, creating two distinct sections. The top half, or chief, features a silver (white) field emblazoned with a prominent 17th-century three-masted sailing ship, a "driemaster." This imagery is likely a reference to the historical shipping activity that occurred on the Hunze river, which flowed near Gasselte.

The lower half, or base, presents a contrasting scene. A green (vert) background provides the backdrop for a central silver (white) ram's head, viewed face-on. Accompanying the ram's head are three silver "turf" blocks, positioned to the sides and below. This arrangement hints at the local agricultural practices of the time, possibly referencing peat and sheep farming, key elements of the area's historical economy.

Symbolism and Interpretation

The central imagery of the sailing ship likely embodies Gasselte's past involvement in river commerce and transportation. The presence of the ram's head and "turf" blocks within the design points to the historical importance of agriculture, particularly sheep farming and possibly peat extraction, within the Gasselte area.

Overall Design

The design features a coat of arms that is topped by a golden crown with three leaves and two pearls.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/gasselte-wapen-1932-netherlands-coat-of-arms-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-2-inch-white-position1.webp?v=1764554763
https://thestickerspace.com/products/gasselte-wapen-1932-netherlands-coat-of-arms-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
