A muted, shadowed background emphasizes the central figure of the Saint, whose habit flows in deep, dark folds. His hands are raised in a gesture of deliberate focus, drawing the eye toward the plate where the birds transition from culinary objects to living creatures. The composition relies on the interplay between the stark, white cloth draped over the table and the subtle, warm light illuminating the Saint’s profile, creating a sense of volume and gravity.

Provenance & The Miraculous Narrative

This work draws from the hagiography of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, a 13th-century Augustinian friar who reportedly refused to eat roasted birds served to him during a period of illness, choosing instead to pray over them and restore them to life. Garofalo, a master of the High Renaissance style, translates this legend into a study of piety and restraint. The painting reflects the transition of the artist's style from the vibrant, bustling works of his youth to the more contemplative, solemn subjects favored in his later career.

On the Sticker

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the complex silhouette of the Saint and the table setting is precisely separated from its backing. This allows the intricate lines of Garofalo’s brushwork to stand alone, effectively transforming a historical oil-on-canvas study into a distinct, portable icon that follows the exact contour of the original composition.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/garofalo-benvenuto-tisi-da-saint-nicholas-of-tolentino-reviving-the-birds-ca-1530-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-GRFBNV-2X2-3-front.webp?v=1789511292
https://thestickerspace.com/products/garofalo-benvenuto-tisi-da-saint-nicholas-of-tolentino-reviving-the-birds-ca-1530-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
