Maulbertsch employs a sophisticated palette of soft pastels, golden highlights, and deepened shadows to create an illusion of infinite depth against the architectural frame. The figures are rendered with loose, rapid brushstrokes that lend a sense of frantic movement and atmospheric lightness to the entire scene, balancing the heavy theological subject matter with an ethereal, airy grace.

Meaning & Symbolism

Commissioned for the cathedral in Szombathely, this work serves as an apotheosis—a glorification of the Árpád dynasty’s canonized rulers, including Stephen I and Ladislaus I. By situating these Hungarian saints amidst a cloud-filled, transcendental space, Maulbertsch emphasizes the intersection of national identity and divine mandate. The swirling chaos of the cherubs and supplicants illustrates the triumph of faith over earthly constraints, a hallmark of 18th-century ecclesiastical art designed to overwhelm the viewer with the grandeur of the afterlife.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

This sticker is cut precisely to the irregular outline of this celestial vision, allowing the fluid, organic shapes of the clouds and saints to float independently of a traditional rectangular border. Because the sticker follows the specific contours of the fresco’s composition, it integrates cleanly onto flat, smooth surfaces like laptop lids or notebook covers, where the complex, painterly details of the Baroque masters remain accessible for close observation.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/franz-anton-maulbertsch-the-glorification-of-the-royal-hungarian-saints-ca-177273-v3-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-FRNNTN-2X2-3-front.webp?v=1789514417
https://thestickerspace.com/products/franz-anton-maulbertsch-the-glorification-of-the-royal-hungarian-saints-ca-177273-v3-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
