Custos employs intricate hatching and cross-hatching to define the doctor’s weathered features, the texture of his academic robes, and the starched rigidity of his ruff. The composition is framed by a clear, confident oval border that isolates the subject against a neutral background, focusing the viewer’s eye on the intellectual gravity of the face and the deliberate, scholarly gaze of the sitter.

The Scholarly Legacy

Adolph Occo was a figure of significant standing in the late 16th-century medical community, representing the intersection of classical humanism and emerging clinical practice. Custos, a pivotal figure in the Augsburg print trade, transforms Occo from a mere practitioner into a symbol of the era's obsession with scientific classification and individual legacy. The inclusion of subtle heraldry and Latinate inscriptions serves to anchor the subject in his professional reality, elevating the print beyond a simple likeness into an artifact of the early modern intellectual elite.

On the Sticker

Because this design is a kiss-cut decal, the intricate, swirling lines of Custos’s engraving are liberated from the rectangular confines of a traditional paper print. The contour-cut edges follow the silhouette of the frame, allowing the portrait to float on your surface of choice. This format turns a historical document into a portable piece of art, where the stark black-and-white contrast of the master’s technique stands out against smooth, flat surfaces like laptops or personal journals.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/dominicus-custos-portret-van-de-friese-arts-adolph-occo-1590-1615-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-DMNCST-2X2-65-alt-3.webp?v=1788617731
https://thestickerspace.com/products/dominicus-custos-portret-van-de-friese-arts-adolph-occo-1590-1615-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
