Muted earth tones and sepia-leaning washes emphasize the structural precision of the ships, while the horizon line remains low to provide expansive views of the quay and harbor facilities. Small figures of laborers and sailors are scattered across the docks, offering a sense of scale against the towering masts that slice through the upper portion of the frame.

Meaning & Symbolism

Captured during a period of significant Dutch maritime influence, this piece serves as a visual ledger of the Vlissingen port's strategic importance. The collection of vessels represents the convergence of commerce and naval defense that defined Zeeland’s economy during the late 18th century. By documenting these specific harbor conditions, the work preserves the aesthetic and logistical reality of a gateway to the North Sea, freezing a fleeting moment of maritime industry before the industrial shift in ship design.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the complex silhouettes of the ship masts and rigging are isolated from any distracting background. This allows the dense, calligraphic detail of the historical etching to stand as a singular, precise graphic element. Whether placed on a laptop lid or a journal cover, the sticker’s custom-cut border honors the original print’s artistic framing, transforming a 250-year-old architectural study into a mobile, tactile piece of maritime history.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/dirk-de-jong-flushing-haven-van-vlissingen-in-zeeland-port-de-vlissingen-en-zeelande-1779-1787-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-DRKD-2X2-14DD2-alt-3.webp?v=1788641821
https://thestickerspace.com/products/dirk-de-jong-flushing-haven-van-vlissingen-in-zeeland-port-de-vlissingen-en-zeelande-1779-1787-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
