The design is a faithful reproduction of the original heraldic emblem.

Visual Elements and Composition

The artwork is based on a shield divided horizontally, creating two distinct color fields. The top half is rendered in a vibrant red (gules) background, showcasing a golden (Or) lion passant. The lion is depicted in a walking pose, with one forepaw raised, a classic heraldic stance.

The bottom half of the shield features a golden (Or) background, contrasting beautifully with the red (gules) element it holds: a wall-anchor (Maueranker). This provides a strong visual foundation for the overall design.

Symbolism and Meaning

The design is rich in historical significance. The golden lion is the Welfen (Guelph) Lion, a symbol deeply tied to the Dukes of Brunswick and the historic Welf dynasty, representing the region's noble heritage and ruling power.

The wall-anchor represents the historic arms of the Counts of Plesse, who held authority over part of the district's territory. This inclusion anchors the design to local historical roots, and to a specific era.

Overall, the design encapsulates the district’s identity from 1935 through 1973, reflecting a period of Prussian administration and local identity within Lower Saxony. The combination of the Welfen lion and the wall-anchor creates a distinctive visual statement, rooted in history.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/deu-landkreis-goettingen-1935-coa-germany-coat-of-arms-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-2-inch-white-position1.webp?v=1764525803
https://thestickerspace.com/products/deu-landkreis-goettingen-1935-coa-germany-coat-of-arms-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
