Medical Supply Boat Planter at General Hospital Wharf on the Appomattox (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Kiss-Cut Decal

City Point, Va., Vicinity. Medical Supply Boat Planter at General Hospital Wharf on the Appomattox (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Kiss-Cut Decal

A black and white photograph of the Union medical supply boat Planter tied up at the General Hospital wharf on the Appomattox River.

Visual Elements & Composition

The image is built in greys, from pale light on the water and sky down to charcoal in the shadowed hulls and banks. A sidewheel paddle steamer named Planter is the main subject, with a two-masted schooner under sail nearby. A group of men in military-style dress stands on the riverbank, and a covered wagon rolls along a dirt road above a wooded shoreline. The word PLANTER is legible on the vessel, anchoring the scene to its name.

Meaning & Symbolism

The photograph dates to the American Civil War, taken during the Siege of Petersburg between June 1864 and April 1865. City Point, where the Appomattox and James rivers meet, served as Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant's headquarters and main supply depot, and it grew into one of the busiest logistics hubs of the war. The Planter and the wharves behind it show the supply chain that moved medicines and equipment to the Depot Field Hospital, which treated the wounded and sick who passed through the depot.

Where the Kiss-Cut Sticker Meets the Print

A kiss-cut sticker is trimmed to its own outline, so the edge of the sticker follows the frame of the photograph itself rather than leaving a border around it. Because the image is a documentary print with fine tonal detail, the cut keeps the scene intact and clean. It suits a desk, a journal or a notebook cover, where the photograph can be looked at closely.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/city-point-va-vicinity-medical-supply-boat-planter-at-general-hospital-wharf-on-the-appomattox-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-22653705910580022522-alt-3.webp?v=1787757550
https://thestickerspace.com/products/city-point-va-vicinity-medical-supply-boat-planter-at-general-hospital-wharf-on-the-appomattox-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
