Dominated by muted, earthy pigments and traditional wash techniques, the artwork balances the stillness of the figure against the rhythmic folds of his garments. The negative space is utilized to emphasize the contemplative posture, drawing the viewer's eye to the delicate facial details and the deliberate, calligraphic brushstrokes that define the original painting’s aesthetic.

Meaning & Symbolism

Luohans represent enlightened beings who have attained nirvana and act as guardians of the Buddhist faith. The spurious date of 1634 suggests a complex history of attribution within the Ming or early Qing era, reflecting the deep reverence for these figures in East Asian art history. This particular depiction captures the intersection of spiritual asceticism and the refined, detailed portraiture style characteristic of the period’s ink-and-color traditions.

On the Sticker

The kiss-cut allows the silhouette of this historical figure to exist as an independent form, detached from a square frame. By isolating the Luohan’s profile, the decal transforms a complex museum-grade painting into a sharp, graphic accent that adheres directly to the surface of a laptop or journal. The custom-cut edge mirrors the precise craftsmanship of the original artist, allowing the figure to sit naturally against your chosen background without the interference of a border.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/chen-xian-the-sixteen-luohans-spurious-date-of-1634-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-front.webp?v=1788820946
https://thestickerspace.com/products/chen-xian-the-sixteen-luohans-spurious-date-of-1634-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
