Daddi employs a sophisticated palette of deep vermilion and muted earth tones in the drapery, which contrast sharply with the shimmering, punctured gold leaf. The figures are arranged in a tight, vertical compression that emphasizes their expressive gestures and elongated proportions, drawing the eye upward toward the suffering figure of Christ at the apex of the scene.

Ecclesiastical Significance

Painted in Florence around 1325–30, this work reflects the shift toward a more humanistic portrayal of religious icons. The sorrowful expressions of the Virgin and Saint John invite the viewer into a direct, empathetic experience of the passion, moving away from the rigid Byzantine tradition toward a softer, more emotive Gothic sensibility. The intricate punching in the gilded surface serves not merely as decoration, but as a symbolic representation of divine light, isolating the sacred figures from the mundane world.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the complex, pointed silhouette of the cross and the figures are isolated from their background. This allows the artwork to function as a singular, portable icon that retains the sanctity of its original wood-panel form, transforming a historical museum piece into a distinct, sharp-edged graphic element that stands apart on any flat, smooth surface.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/bernardo-daddi-the-crucifixion-ca-132530-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-BRNDDD-2X2-7-front.webp?v=1789330890
https://thestickerspace.com/products/bernardo-daddi-the-crucifixion-ca-132530-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
