Pontoon Bridge and Ruins of the Stone Bridge Across the Potomac (Destroyed in 1861) (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Kiss-Cut Decal

Berlin (Now Brunswick), Md. Pontoon Bridge and Ruins of the Stone Bridge Across the Potomac (Destroyed in 1861) (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Kiss-Cut Decal

This sticker shows a nineteenth-century stereograph of a mounted rider wading across the Potomac at Berlin, Maryland, with the ruined stone bridge and a temporary pontoon crossing nearby.

Visual Elements & Composition

The image is monochrome, built from pale grey, mid grey, charcoal and black tones. Two circular views sit side by side inside a rectangular frame, the format of a stereograph card. A dark horse and rider wade through shallow water at the centre, with the horse reflected in a pool beneath it. A second rider and horse appear on a causeway in the distance, and a tall bare pole stands at the left edge.

Meaning & Symbolism

The stone bridge across the Potomac was destroyed in 1861, at the start of the American Civil War, and the view records the pontoon crossing that took its place. The image works as archival evidence, showing the damaged bridge and the improvised route side by side in one frame.

Cut to the Crossing

A kiss-cut sticker follows the outline of the image, so the crossing's shape becomes the edge of the sticker itself. The mostly grey tonal range keeps the rider and reflection sharp at close range, which suits a notebook, a journal or a laptop lid.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/berlin-now-brunswick-md-pontoon-bridge-and-ruins-of-the-stone-bridge-across-the-potomac-destroyed-in-1861-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-22645802000457514660-alt-3.webp?v=1787753043
https://thestickerspace.com/products/berlin-now-brunswick-md-pontoon-bridge-and-ruins-of-the-stone-bridge-across-the-potomac-destroyed-in-1861-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
