The design speaks to a time of nascent Ukrainian sovereignty and the struggle to establish a national identity on the Black Sea.

Design Elements

The core of the design is built upon the classic elements of the Ukrainian naval tradition. The field, or background, is primarily a clean white, symbolizing purity, and potentially mirroring the hope for a new beginning. A prominent, vibrant blue St. Andrew's cross, diagonally bisecting the white field, is the central element.

At the heart of the design, the emblem takes center stage: a smaller Tryzub (Trident), the national symbol of Ukraine. The Tryzub represents the nation's independence, its heritage, and its ambition. It serves as a clear indication of Ukrainian affiliation.

Meaning and Symbolism

The combination of these elements tells a clear story. The white field and blue cross pay homage to naval traditions, the legacy of a past naval history. The addition of the Tryzub provides a Ukrainian identity that distinguished these vessels from their counterparts, marking them as belonging to a new, independent nation. This flag was not just a signal of function—it was a declaration of Ukrainian presence and control.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/auxiliary-naval-ensign-of-ukraine-1918-ukraine-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-2-inch-white-position1.webp?v=1755262807
https://thestickerspace.com/products/auxiliary-naval-ensign-of-ukraine-1918-ukraine-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
