The wolf, standing upright and dressed in the attire of a traveler or pilgrim, dominates the foreground as he pulls the bell ropes with exaggerated intent. The composition is set against the architectural backdrop of a convent, with the stark contrast of the ink-black shadows against the textured stone walls creating a sense of depth and impending mischief. The artist utilizes the fifth state of six, emphasizing the sharp, dramatic light that renders the wolf’s fur and the surrounding foliage with clinical, period-accurate detail.

Satire and Animal Fable

The image functions as a biting commentary on the hypocrisy often found in medieval and Renaissance beast epics. By placing a predator in the guise of a pious bell-ringer, Van Everdingen lampoons the ease with which figures of authority or religious devotion can be subverted by base instincts. This print belongs to a long tradition of moralizing fables where animals serve as stand-ins for human vices, specifically the cunning deception required to infiltrate protected spaces.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because the kiss-cut follows the precise silhouette of the wolf and the bell ropes, the stark, illustrative quality of the original print stands out clearly against your gear. The irregular, custom shape removes the clutter of a square border, allowing the intricate linework of the 17th-century engraving to command the surface of your laptop or journal directly.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/allart-van-everdingen-the-wolf-rings-the-bells-of-a-convent-from-hendrick-van-alcmars-renard-the-fox-165075-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-LLRVN-2X2-123-front.webp?v=1789225937
https://thestickerspace.com/products/allart-van-everdingen-the-wolf-rings-the-bells-of-a-convent-from-hendrick-van-alcmars-renard-the-fox-165075-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
