Fine, deliberate linework captures the intricate scrolls and foliated motifs that characterize Loir’s original copperplate etching. The piece relies on a high-contrast interplay between shadowed voids and highlighted structural elements, emphasizing the three-dimensional depth of the vessel's ornate handles and central basin. A sense of vertical tension dominates, drawing the eye toward the delicate, swirling finials that crown the object’s rim.

Historical Significance

Dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, this plate originates from a suite of designs intended for the production of fire-pots and basins. Loir, a master of the ornamental style, utilized these drawings to document the transition between functional utility and high-art sculpture. The imagery serves as a historical record of the era's obsession with elaborate ornamentation, where common household vessels were elevated through the application of dense, naturalistic, and geometric flourishes. It stands as a testament to the period’s refined craftsmanship and the decorative influence of the French court.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

The kiss-cut method precisely follows the intricate silhouette of Loir’s original engraving, isolating the complex curves of the vessel from the surrounding paper. This allows the ornate metalwork to stand as a distinct graphic element, creating a sharp, clean edge that highlights the delicacy of the linework. By stripping away the negative space, the design functions as a singular, portable artifact of art history that adapts to the scale of a journal cover or a laptop lid.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/alexis-loir-plate-6-from-desseins-de-brasiers-dont-les-ornements-peuuent-seruir-aux-cuuettes-16601713-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-LXSLR-2X2-36-front.webp?v=1789220360
https://thestickerspace.com/products/alexis-loir-plate-6-from-desseins-de-brasiers-dont-les-ornements-peuuent-seruir-aux-cuuettes-16601713-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
