Battery Rodgers at Hunting Creek and the Potomac; 8-In. Parrott Gun in Foreground; a Rodman Gun Beyond (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Kiss-Cut Decal

A black-and-white stereograph view of two heavy cannons on iron carriages in an earthwork battery, overlooking the river at Alexandria, Virginia.

Visual Elements & Composition

The image is built as a pair of side-by-side panels in soft greys, with a light sky above and mid-grey water beyond. The 8-inch Parrott gun dominates the foreground, its dark iron barrel resting on a carriage, while a second Rodman gun sits further back in the same earthwork. Wooden steps climb the earthen parapet, and wharves and buildings line the far bank, giving the scene a layered depth.

Meaning & Symbolism

The battery belongs to the Civil War defences that guarded the Potomac approaches to Washington. Parrott and Rodman guns were the heavy artillery of the period, and placing them at Hunting Creek records how riverside fortifications were arranged in the 1860s. The stereograph format links the image to the photographic record of the war, so the piece serves as a historical document of American military engineering as much as a picture of guns.

Set Against a Die-Cut Edge

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to the edge of its own artwork, so the outline of the cannon and the parapet becomes the shape of the sticker rather than a plain rectangle. The fine tonal detail of the photograph suits a close view on a journal, a laptop lid or a notebook, where the iron barrel and the river can be studied up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/alexandria-va-battery-rodgers-at-hunting-creek-and-the-potomac-8-in-parrott-gun-in-foreground-a-rodman-gun-beyond-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-16778280486791769528-alt-3.webp?v=1787750674
https://thestickerspace.com/products/alexandria-va-battery-rodgers-at-hunting-creek-and-the-potomac-8-in-parrott-gun-in-foreground-a-rodman-gun-beyond-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
