Flamen utilizes fine, layered hatching to build volume and shadow, creating a sense of depth that mimics the original plate’s pressure against paper. The bird occupies the central foreground, rendered with observational rigor, while the delicate background sketches provide the necessary environmental context without distracting from the primary avian subject.

A Renaissance Study of Nature

Originating from the Livre d'Oyseaux (Book of Birds) published between 1655 and 1660, this print reflects the European fascination with natural history and taxonomic classification during the Dutch Golden Age. Flamen, a master of animal portraiture, treated his subjects with a scientific curiosity that bridge the gap between fine art and biological documentation. The inclusion of the label Cercelle serves as both a title and a classification, grounding the aesthetic beauty of the print in the scholarly pursuits of its era.

The Silhouette as Subject

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the intricate outlines of the teal and the accompanying reeds are isolated from any rectangular border. This allows the complex, spindly details of Flamen’s original etching to sit directly against your chosen flat surface, effectively turning a historical print into a mobile, singular specimen that feels as though it has been lifted directly from the pages of a seventeenth-century ledger.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/albert-flamen-querquedula-cercelle-the-teal-from-livre-doyseaux-book-of-birds-165560-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-LBRFLM-2X2-9-front.webp?v=1789180147
https://thestickerspace.com/products/albert-flamen-querquedula-cercelle-the-teal-from-livre-doyseaux-book-of-birds-165560-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
