Ornate scrollwork and strapwork flank the primary text area, where bold Latin lettering anchors the visual field. The line work is dense and calligraphic, utilizing precise cross-hatching to simulate the weight of carved stone and the delicate curvature of decorative filigree, resulting in a stark, high-contrast black-and-white aesthetic that highlights the mastery of the Flemish print-making tradition.

Meaning & Symbolism

Collaert’s design serves as a pedagogical gateway, framing the martial power of Roman history through the lens of late Renaissance classicism. The architectural motifs represent the permanence of the empire, while the specific ornamental flourishes reflect the high-art sensibilities of the period. By isolating this title page, the design elevates the utilitarian function of a print’s introduction into an emblem of historical scholarship, acknowledging Collaert's role in disseminating the imagery of antiquity to a European audience hungry for classical revival.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the complex, jagged contours of the original engraving’s scrollwork are preserved in the physical outline of the decal. The sticker follows the specific, irregular silhouette of the artwork, allowing the ornate architectural frame to stand independently against any flat surface you choose to adorn.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/adriaen-collaert-title-page-for-roman-emperors-on-horseback-ca-158789-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-DRNCLL-2X2-42-front.webp?v=1789161219
https://thestickerspace.com/products/adriaen-collaert-title-page-for-roman-emperors-on-horseback-ca-158789-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
