It captures the methodical nature of the printmaking process, with the artist’s signature hatch-work and cross-hatching visible across the surface. The layout maintains the integrity of the original plate, utilizing negative space to emphasize the individual strokes that construct the form, ensuring the imagery remains legible and sharp regardless of scale.

Meaning & Symbolism

Originally commissioned as a pedagogical tool, this piece serves as a direct window into the rigorous training of the mid-19th century etching revival. Potémont, a key figure in the Société des Aquafortistes, created these plates to demystify the complexities of the copperplate medium for aspiring printmakers. The design functions as a tribute to the era’s intersection of fine art and craft, distilling the labor-intensive practice of traditional printmaking into a solitary, focused visual study.

On the Sticker

Because this design is a kiss-cut decal, the intricate, often irregular outline of the historical etching is captured with precision. The sticker acts as a miniature archival print, bringing the dense, narrative lines of the 1864 original onto your flat surfaces. Since the cut follows the specific shape of the artwork, the composition appears as a detached, floating fragment of 19th-century history, allowing the fine linework to stand out against your journals, laptops, or notebooks.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/adolphe-martial-potmont-lettre-sur-les-lments-de-la-gravure-leau-forte-letter-on-the-elements-of-etching-1864-v11-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-DLPMRT-2X2-5-front.webp?v=1789158582
https://thestickerspace.com/products/adolphe-martial-potmont-lettre-sur-les-lments-de-la-gravure-leau-forte-letter-on-the-elements-of-etching-1864-v11-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
