adam-von-bartsch-self-portrait-1785-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
Adam von Bartsch - Self-Portrait - 1785 v2 - STICKER Vinyl Kiss-Cut Decal
Adam von Bartsch: Self-Portrait (1785) - Kiss-Cut Sticker Design

This design features the masterful 1785 self-portrait etching by Adam von Bartsch, capturing the renowned engraver and art historian in a moment of intense, scholarly focus.

Composition and Engraving Mastery

The portrait centers on von Bartsch’s profile, rendered through a dense network of delicate, cross-hatched lines that define the curvature of his face and the texture of his period attire. The composition emphasizes the stark contrast between the deep, shadowed pockets of his clothing and the bright, articulate lighting on his brow and nose. Floating within the frame, the subject appears grounded by the rhythmic precision typical of the sixth state of his iconic engraving, where every flick of the burin contributes to the overall weight and shadow of the figure.

Historical Significance and Scholarly Identity

As the author of Le Peintre Graveur, Adam von Bartsch solidified his legacy as the father of systematic print cataloging. This self-portrait reflects the Enlightenment-era dedication to the archive; it is the image of a man whose identity is inextricably linked to the study of paper and ink. By isolating his likeness, the design invites the viewer to acknowledge the archivist behind the art, transforming a rigorous 18th-century printmaking exercise into a modern emblem of intellectual curiosity and artistic preservation.

The Silhouette as a Statement

Presented as a kiss-cut sticker, the intricate, fine-line detailing of the etching is liberated from its original rectangular plate mark. The die-cut follows the precise contours of von Bartsch’s silhouette, allowing the historical engraving to hover against the surface of your laptop or journal. Because the border is cropped to the shape of the figure, the etching functions as a floating cameo, bringing the tactile nature of classical printmaking into your daily rotation.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/adam-von-bartsch-self-portrait-1785-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-DMVN-2X2-19-front.webp?v=1789156391
https://thestickerspace.com/products/adam-von-bartsch-self-portrait-1785-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
