Volck crowds the visual frame with exaggerated caricatures, architectural details of northern streetscapes, and period attire that together establish a busy, highly narrative vignette characteristic of mid-19th-century satirical printmaking.

Historical Context & Satire

Produced under a pseudonym during the height of the conflict, Volck’s pro-Confederate imagery operates as wartime propaganda designed to undermine northern social structures and critique abolitionist sentiment. The figures and settings serve as pointed visual commentary reflecting the intense ideological divisions, racial attitudes, and partisan propaganda campaigns that defined the secession crisis and the Civil War era.

On the Kiss-Cut Stickers

Rendering this historical etching as a kiss-cut sticker allows the intricate boundaries of Volck's original composition to follow its own precise outline when peeled from the sheet, bringing a sharp archival artifact directly onto laptops, journals, and flat indoor surfaces.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/adalbert-john-volck-free-negroes-in-the-north-from-confederate-war-etchings-186163-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-DLBJHN-2X2-12-front.webp?v=1789157034
https://thestickerspace.com/products/adalbert-john-volck-free-negroes-in-the-north-from-confederate-war-etchings-186163-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
