Rich, saturated colors define the lithographic print, utilizing a palette typical of late-1800s promotional ephemera to highlight intricate textures in fabric and ornamentation. The subject stands in a formal, static posture, characteristic of the portrait-style documentation favored by manufacturers of the period to capture exoticized archetypes for consumer collection.

Meaning & Symbolism

The "Races of Mankind" series functioned as a bridge between high-art lithography and low-brow tobacco marketing, reflecting a broader Western fascination with taxonomy and global travel during the late nineteenth century. These cards served as both advertising and collectible novelties, turning human geography into a commodity for the mass market. By condensing complex cultures into a single, portable image, the design acts as an artifact of imperial-era framing, where visual documentation was used to define the boundaries and identities of distant populations for the domestic viewer.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the intricate silhouette of the figure is isolated from the paper backing, allowing the historical subject to be placed cleanly on journals, laptops, or flat indoor surfaces. The precision-cut edge follows the unique contours of the lithograph, effectively detaching the historical figure from its 1881 context and transforming it into a standalone visual element that shifts from a tobacco-trade collectible to a sharp, modern graphic decal.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/abdul-cigarettes-demerara-from-the-races-of-mankind-series-t181-issued-by-abdul-cigarettes-1881-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-BDLCGR-2X2-21-front.webp?v=1789127375
https://thestickerspace.com/products/abdul-cigarettes-demerara-from-the-races-of-mankind-series-t181-issued-by-abdul-cigarettes-1881-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
